Textiles

Textiles Program

Notice: Ace is restructuring our textiles education offering in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency. We hope to begin a combination of virtual and modified on-site offering mid-August.

The Textiles Program includes a monthly Sewing 101 boot camp and Textile Meetups! This program also covers leatherworking. The textiles area has two rolling surfaces for cutting and one standing workbench for heavy work.

Supplies and machines

The textiles area has been relocated to suite 206 to increase the distance between workstations. It is a reconfigurable space with a variety of tables and chairs, including two large rolling cut tables and large rotary mats.  We have a large variety of fabrics and notions that are available for member use.

Training and certification

While the basic sewing machines don’t require certification, we highly recommend that you take a class or get help with the Pfaff walking foot machine if you have never used these types of machines before. The Juki Serger and the Janome Coverstitch machines both require certification or supervision.

Leatherworking

We have a basic complement of leather hand working tools to go along with our Pfaff walking foot heavy-duty leather sewing machine.

Silkscreening

All the basic tools for both traditional and non-traditional silkscreening are available. We often use laser-cut mylar stencils to create the resist for quick silkscreen runs.
